The Rejuvenation Project
The news that Professor Marcus Deighton has developed a technique to bring the dead back to life – a process known as rejuvenation – is immediately met by hysteria within the media and a polarisation in society between the overwhelming majority who welcome it and a negligible minority who do not.
One of the opponents is Deighton’s daughter Helen, and another the Reverend Mouland, both of whom join forces with a small protest group ironically called Man Against Doctors (MAD) which is led by unhinged fanatic Mary Fields.
Reverend Mouland’s despair at the total secularisation of society is deepened when his church is sold for the storage of bodies awaiting rejuvenation, whilst Professor Deighton is unable to see anything but benefit for mankind and becomes egotistical about the great plaudits his discovery brings him.
Following on from the failure of MAD to have any influence over people ever more devoid of meaningful concern because life can last forever, an attack on Deighton’s now estranged daughter finally alters the course of the whole rejuvenation project in a way that no one could ever have imagined.
